Thank you for this! I'm a researcher/teacher in the humanities and I work a lot with faculty on how to approach AI in the classroom. I've used the authorship policy from Nature as an example because I find their attention to *responsibility* in authorship useful. But your analysis here helps me frame my more systematic concern about what using AI means for our thinking and research.

I used to sit on a desk next to a guy who covered Reed/Elsevier among other media stocks, and he came up with pretty much exactly this analysis in ... must have been about 2012, when the Open Access thing was just getting going. He used to say something like "if Spotify could charge bands a hundred dollars for every track they uploaded, don't you think they'd be happy to give the music for free?"
